Excited for the upcoming warm weather? We are! This week’s newsletter is full of activities and workshops all about the spring bloom, focusing on flowers, nature, and other lovely outside events. It’s been a long winter! 😭

A quick housekeeping note: we’ll be taking a quick spring break at the end of the month and will be back with a jam-packed calendar on May 1st. Don’t have too much fun without us!

  • In this workshop, you will learn Moribana, the fundamental style of Sogetsu Ikebana.

  • Instructor Demin will guide you through the essential principles of Moribana, including the main structural elements, composition, and how to use a kenzan. You will also explore how to create balance and spatial harmony between the arrangement and the vase.

  • Through understanding the structure and tension of flowers and branches, you will begin to discover your own artistic language and inner aesthetic.

🌼 Natural Dye Workshop ($45-$65) at Land to Sea Cafe

  • About this workshop: In this workshop, led by @kristenchiu of @thingamajig_objects, (see more about the artist below) we will go over the fundamentals of at-home natural dye techniques. Participants will learn how to bundle dye with natural materials, including fresh and dried flowers, plants, spices, and food waste. This dye workshop focuses on natural and sustainable dye practices to combat the overuse of harsh chemical materials in the fashion and textile industries. Through the utilization of food waste and plant materials, we seek to teach practical applications for studio and at-home practice.

  • We encourage you to bring small pieces of light-colored natural fibers only (cotton, linen, wool) from home to upcycle during this workshop. All of the pieces you dye, you will get to take home with you to use in any way you’d like.

📍 New York Botanical Garden: Orchid Nights

The NYBG is back with its yearly Orchid show—this year with a block party vibe, DJ sets, and curated craft cocktails! A staple of the Bronx, the Botanical Garden’s Orchid Nights are a 21+ ticketed version of the daytime Orchid Show, offering a more intimate and electric date night spot or weekend outing. Sculpted by florist Mr. Flower Fantastic, this year’s exhibit shows off a mini NYC made out of orchid petals in the conservatory, creating a natural environment out of the city we love.

A close walk or an easy train trip, the NYBG is a great place to visit year-round but especially at the beginning of spring. They’re currently running a discount for Orchid Nights, too! Use code EVENINGS20 for 20% off weekend nights in April.
