✏️ Weekend Art: Saturday Sketch Club (FREE with museum admission) at the Brooklyn Museum

  • Draw inspiration from Everyday Rebellions: Collection Conversations, an exhibition that reveals how contemporary artists infuse daily life with mindful gestures of creative defiance. Artists of all ages can drop in to discover textures, marks, and patterns in the works on view and translate them to sketches.

🗺️ Riso Poster Making ($150) by Secret Riso Club

  • In this hands-on 3 hour course, participants of all skill levels will make a poster using the Risograph printing machine. Risograph, sometimes referred to as digital screen-printing, is known for its characteristic vivid colors and textural imperfections that digital printing cannot achieve.

  • In this workshop, you will learn the process and mechanisms of Riso and how to layer colors to create a unique 2 color poster. Participants can collage with materials provided, bring, or print their own images. This course will be entirely analog.

  • ​Torrey Peters’ sharp, tender, and provocative debut has sparked wide cultural conversation for its unflinching exploration of gender, womanhood, desire, parenthood, and what it means to build a life that feels livable when the available scripts don’t quite fit. The novel asks difficult, intimate questions: Who gets access to womanhood? What does family look like when it’s improvised rather than inherited? How do love, regret, longing, and responsibility shape our choices?

🍭 Snacks And The City at Gotham Chelsea (FREE) by Gotham Events

  • Gotham Chelsea presents Snacks and the City, a solo exhibition by Elizabeth Saloka featuring 70 hand-painted rock sculptures that explore our relationship to food as both conditioned consumers and emotionally complex individuals. On view from March 19 through May 3, the exhibition marks Saloka’s largest exhibition to date.

  • ​Saloka’s practice begins with careful selection of rocks or rubble, observing shape, scale, and surface before determining what it is “supposed to be”. The works function as artifacts of consumption, reflecting the Pavlovian dimensions of what we eat and crave and how we self-soothe.

🖼️ MoCCA Arts Fest ($18-$36) by the Society of Illustrators

  • Manhattan's largest independent comics and cartoon art festival, MoCCA is a multimedia event that draws over 7,000 attendees and over 400 exhibiting artists that exemplify the limitless aesthetic and social power of comics and cartooning.

📍 The Society of American Graphic Artists: Open Call
Deadline: May 1st, 2026

Rather than an experience, this week’s hidden gem is an opportunity for artists! The Society of American Graphic Artists has opened their doors to new member applications until 5/1. SAGA is an artist-based nonprofit that’s been around over 100 years and aims to promote contemporary printmakers around the country.

Located on the perimeter of Union Square, SAGA is home to a gallery with rotating member exhibitions, an extensive archive of prints, and a community of artists that produce online content about the medium. The member application process has no fee and runs until the beginning of May; if you’re a printmaker looking to expand your collaboration and community, this might be the place for you!
